A movie night box keeps the snacks, blankets and film choices for a family night in all in one place. This project letters a wooden crate you supply with personalised vinyl decals. It makes a fun gift for a family, a couple or a film lover, and it’s a nice one for a Christmas film night too.

What you’ll need

From Bessie Boo

You’ll supply

  • A wooden crate. The decals are designed for a Hobbycraft crate 40cm wide, with a 7cm top bar and an 8cm bottom bar.
  • A tape measure
  • Snacks, a film, and anything else for a night in

These aren’t sold with the decal.

1. Measure your crate

Like the other crate decals, these are sized for the crate in Fliss’s photos: 40cm wide, with a 7cm-deep top bar and an 8cm-deep bottom bar. The listing says they fit lots of other crates too.

If your crate is a different size, message Fliss through Etsy before ordering, and she can resize the design to fit.

2. Choose the wording

The listing photos show “The Mawson’s” across the top bar and “Movie Night Snacks” across the bottom.

Decals only. The crate in these photos isn't included.

You write the name you’d like in the personalisation box. A family surname works well for a shared box, or use a first name for a film lover’s own snack stash. Fliss’s listing photos also say alternative wording is available, so message her if you have something else in mind.

Check the spelling before you order, and note any maximum width or height in the personalisation box. If you’d like a different colour, message Fliss. The listing has a colour chart.

3. Apply the decals

Measure along each bar and find the middle before you start. The decals can’t be repositioned once they’re down.

4. Fill it

Popcorn, sweets, hot chocolate, a blanket and a film or two all fit the theme. For Christmas, add a festive film and a mug to match:

The finished version arrives already lettered, with a film clapperboard beside the name.
